Supporting Children & Families in Paediatric Palliative Care
Introduction to paediatric palliative care and the role of the hospice within the paediatric palliative care setting. Referral process. Supporting children through sensory play. Non-pharmacological management of symptoms. A child and family centered approach to paediatric palliative care. Supporting siblings through a difficult journey.
Monday 7th March 2016:
Meeting the Nutritional Needs of Children and Young People
Blended diet via gastrostomies. Ketogenic Diet and its place in seizure management. Practical workshops focusing on withdrawal of artificial nutrition and hydration at end of life. Care of a child with a gastrostomy including troubleshooting. Care of a child with an NG tube including troubleshooting.
Monday 4th July 2016:
Epilepsy in the Children and Young People
An introduction to epilepsy in children and young people, seizure types, daily management of epilepsy and treatment options with workshops focusing on VNS, rescue medication and management of seizures at end of life.
Monday 7th November 2016:
Pain Management in Paediatric Palliative Care
Recognition of pain in children and young people. Management of acute and chronic pain;
non-pharmacological approach to pain management and pain management at end of life.
The cost of each session will be £40 and spaces will be limited. A full programme of each event will follow soon together with details on how to book your place.
